In a world where the Savior was a demon knight from Hell, that demon married a human and had twin sons. Hell on earth happened, and one of the boys - Vergil - was stolen by Hell, leading the other twin Dante to become a notorious Demon Hunter. While earth survives hellfire apocalypse well enough to still have pizza, electric bills, and relatively modern day city life if you're not in a cult, Hell consists of every metal album art you've ever seen, it's all covered in blood, and it all wants to eat or torture or fuck you. Yggdrasil made of FLESH is there! These two realms should never ever cross, except for how they do all the time, especially when a demon king wants to take over earth. That's where demon slayers come in, fighting as stylishly as possible with swords, guns, and sentient motorcycles. |

| 15 Second Summary |
[SPOILERS FOR DMCV] Vergil spent only his early years on the surface. In Hell, young Vergil was tortured into assimilation and slavery, valued and reviled for his legendary blood by the vicious demon king. He became a demented asshole and a notorious boss fight, bent on spite and revenge. His free will was ultimately broken and for an unknown amount of time he was completely brainwashed until another fateful confrontation with Dante. Defeated, unstable, and resentful of his weakness, Vergil severed himself into several beings. He cut out his nightmares, and he cut out his humanity. Successfully free of those, the pure demon ascended into an apocalyptic power frenzy. But he completely overlooked his discarded dregs: his human half, born powerless but determined to live. Now able to see his own downward spiral from a dramatically different perspective, "V" enlisted the aid of his personified nightmares AND the very family he'd once cut off (which are practically synonyms in V's case) to stop his demonic counterpart. While he is still partly that vicious and prideful half-demon, V is sentimental, polite, contrite, and extremely reserved. A hell-fog has lifted for V, and though he must remain goal-oriented, he now understands his wish to be protected and loved for what it was. He reads the poetry he once liked as a kid over and over in his extremely limited time, and he connects with people he once spurned. By attempting to permanently escape his human heart, Vergil accidentally birthed the key to breaking free of an inescapable cycle. Ultimately, V dies by fusing with his demonic half, restoring Vergil in a gamble to at least live on inside him. |
